We walked to the edge of a 400-foot drop-off. Watched in awe as the waves crashed on the shore beneath us. Basked in the golden glow of the setting West Michigan sun over the shores of Lake Michigan. And then turned to focus on capturing the even more stunning story of Leigh & Nicholas’s love amidst the stunning backdrop of a majestic national lakeshore. Yep, this Sleeping Bear Dunes engagement session was a fairy tale.
This sunset session with Leigh & Nicholas is a shining example (haha, no pun intended there I promise) of why I love traveling to amazing places for my sessions. From our very first meeting, Leigh & Nicholas were very transparent about the fact that they love getting out in nature and exploring our beautiful world. So when I suggested the magnificent backdrop of the jaw-dropping cliffs of Empire Bluffs for their engagement session, they jumped at the opportunity.
On the short hike out to the dunes, we shared fun conversation about Nick’s love for craft beer, Leigh’s passion for travel and adventures, and their shared love for their little fur child – an adorable dog that I’m hoping I someday have the privilege of meeting. Once we turned the final corner and stepped onto the edge of the trail, though, our conversation quickly turned towards the love they share and the story they’re telling as a couple. And let me tell you, I could’ve spent countless hours with these two – exploring the cliffs, swimming in the glow of the summer sun, and capturing images that reflect the relationship they share and the journey they’re on together. The little knowing glances, playful tickles, quiet cuddles, and gentle kisses melted my heart and left me wishing that time could stand still and we could stay in those moments forever.
